According to Wikipedia, "
Contemporary art is art produced at the present period in time. Contemporary art includes, and develops from,
Postmodern art, which is itself a successor to
Modern art." Usually artwork from the 1950's to the present time is considered contemporary art. Nowadays, basically anything goes with art. Every genre is accepted, landscape, abstract, figurative, still life, portraits, narratives, representational, non-representational, etc. Mixed media is very hot right now, including collage work. Fifty years from now I do not know what the art critics will be calling this current art time period, for it will no longer be contemporary, but I am certainly enjoying the freedom that is currently available. Enjoy!
