Fiber art refers to
fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic
fiber and other components, such as
fabric or
yarn. It focuses on the materials and on the manual labour on the part of the artist as part of the works' significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value over utility." Artists have been working with fabric and yarn for centuries, though in the past they were not considered artists and many of them were women. Nowadays fiber art has exploded and artists, both female and male, are creating fine art with the fabric and yarn. Lana Crooks fiber art (see picture), is what she calls soft sculpture and is where she elevates stuffed animal to fine art. Enjoy!
